Before applying different discounts to sales orders, we must first enable the discount feature in the Sales module’s Configuration -> Settings. 



The discount button appears in the sale order after it has been enabled and saved. By selecting a customer and adding the required products to the order lines, we can make a sales order for that.  

Line Discount


In Odoo 18, users can apply percentage-based discounts to specific product lines within a Sales Order. This functionality is particularly useful when multiple products in a single purchase require different discount rates, allowing for more flexible pricing methods. 


First, we can click the discount option to apply line discounts. We can select the type of discount applied to all order margins in the wizard and enter the discount to be applied in the designated field. 



Once you click the apply button, the discount will be added to the order lines. 





We can validate the sale order, proceed with delivery, and create the invoice after the discount has been applied.

 

Global Discount 


A global discount applies a uniform % discount to the whole Sales Order rather than individual line products. This strategy is ideal for promotions that apply to all consumers or for offering a uniform discount on bulk orders. 


Clicking the Discount button and selecting global discount as the discount type in the wizard will apply a global discount. Also, enter the percentage discount in the designated field. 



After clicking the Apply button, the discount is applied globally. 

After applying the global discount, Odoo will automatically update the total cost, allowing you to proceed with order confirmation. 


Fixed Amount Discount


You can immediately deduct a certain amount from the order’s total value when you use a fixed amount discount. A particular amount can be reduced straight from the order’s total value with this kind of discount, resulting in obvious and predictable savings that are simple for both the company and the client to comprehend and control. 


After clicking the Discount option in the sale order, we can select the fixed amount as the discount type and enter the amount that will be reduce from the total sale order amount. 




The result will be subtracted from the selling order’s total amount. 




Margins On Sale Orders 


This is related to profit margin analysis, which allows companies to calculate the difference between sales prices and cost of goods sold, providing insights into the profitability of each order. 


To determine the margins on sale orders, first enable the Margins option from Configuration -> Settings of the sales module. 




Once margins are enabled in the sale order, the graphic displays the overall margin for the entire selling order. This provides a clear picture of the profitability of the sale order. 


In addition, the order line will show the margin for each product line, which is defined as the difference between the sale and cost price. We may also see the margin in percentages on each order line.


Reporting with Pivot View 


By gathering, filtering, and showing important metrics from several angles, the pivot view feature in reporting gives customers the ability to interactively examine and summarize data while providing flexible insights.

 

The Odoo 18 sales module’s Reporting menu allows us to see,


  • Graph View 
  • Pivot View 
  • List View 








Filtering in the Sales Report Pivot View makes it easy to analyze sales trends by allowing users to apply filters like date ranges, sales orders, completely invoiced, etc. to focus on particular data sets. 


Meanwhile, the group-by function allows users to categorize data based on multiple qualities, such as salesperson or customer, resulting in a deeper understanding of performance indicators and better decision-making. 



Once the pivot table has been customized, you can share it directly within Odoo or export it to Excel, giving your team access to the insightful data it offers. 



You can make a thorough study of your discount methods and evaluate their impact on overall sales performance and profitability by using pivot tables’ capabilities. 


To sum up, Odoo 18’s sales module provides great capabilities for managing discounts and assessing margins, allowing businesses to improve their sales performance while remaining competitive.
